Company History

Desktop Solutions was founded as a sole proprietorship by Jerry Britton in November 1987. At the time, the company offered one-on-one training and consulting for Macintosh users, as well as sales of Macintosh peripherals. An emphasis was placed on the desktop publishing and local area networking markets.

In the late 1980's, Desktop Solutions began offering custom database development services, using 4th Dimension from ACI US, Inc. During this period two vertical market applications were developed for clients which would later be marketed publicly.

In the early 1990's, Desktop Solutions was accepted into Apple Computer's new Value Added Reseller program and the company began selling Apple hardware.

As of January 1, 1994, Desktop Solutions was incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as Desktop Solutions of Pennsylvania, Inc.

Desktop Solutions continues to offer consulting and database development services and continues. Experience and success has led the company into enterprise consulting, with successes in network routers and switches, ethernet and fast ethernet networking, WAN and Internet connectivity, servers, RAID storage, and many other leading edge technologies.

In October, 1996, Desktop Solutions became a domain on the Internet (DSOP.COM). We run our own dns, web, mail, list, and ftp servers. Through this site we offer web site hosting services and have added web site creation to our list of services.

Our computing clientele range from individuals and small business owners to very large companies, financial institutions, and institutions of higher education. While most of our customers are local to central Pennsylvania, we have clients stretching from coast to coast. We'd like to put a pushpin on the map to represent you!

Through a twist of circumstance, we got involved in, and now market, model railroad and railroadiana products. Specializing in products of interest to Pennsylvania Railroad railfans and modelers, we operate this business under the name "Merchandise Service", which was a marketing "theme" used by the original PRR. Customers of Merchandise Service span the globe, as far away as Australia!
